The two lungs of the authentic Church that Jesus established are the Catholic Church and the Orthodox Church (after the schism of 1054). Today the Catholic Church under Pope Francis has become liberal and modernist, becoming more and more heterodox. On the other hand, the Orthodox Church remains conservative and true to its name—orthodox.
The Russian Orthodox Church (the largest of the Eastern Orthodox churches) says Fiducia Supplicans, with its blessing of same-sex couples (thus unions) is a sharp departure from Christian moral teaching, and thus unacceptable. This has now become a big stumbling block to the desired unity of the two Churches.
