Opus Dei is a conservative Church group, and has done a lot of good. Its spirituality is solid. It promotes lay holiness. Its priests are not liberal (and not gay). Its schools provide a strong contrast to liberal Catholic universities.
Pope Francis first intervened into the affairs of Opus Dei, interfering in what was a highly effective prelature, initiating structural reform to limit its autonomy, to suit his own liberal biases. Now Pope Leo is set to break up Opus Dei?
It ain’t broken! Splitting it into three parts, including separating the clergy from the laity, will weaken it and its effective work.
The Vatican has been going after strong conservative Church entities, such as the Knights of Malta (an ancient chivalric order founded in 1048!), the Society of Saint Pius X (SSPX), and the Franciscans of the Immaculate.
